I am an oak.

My trunk is scarred but sturdy.

My limbs are gnarled but able.

I have weathered all the seasons:

winters so frigid and dark I feared I’d never awaken,

springs that revealed my resilience,

summers whose soft rains made me lush,

and glorious autumns that compelled me to share my gifts.

Every part of me offers refuge, shelter, sustenance, healing.

I cradle nests, dreys, hives, and dens 

in my limbs, hollows, and branches. 

My bark is medicine. 

My fruit is sustenance. 

My crown is shade.

I give so much. 

Who, then, nurtures me?

Who planted me on this Earth and told me, “Grow”?

Who keeps me rooted, upright, and steady

while allowing me to bow in submission to Him?

Al Hadi, the Guide.

Al Khaaliq, the Creator.

Al Muqeet, the Ultimate Sustainer.

Al Qawiyy, the Source of All Strength.

Al Mateen, the Firm and Steadfast. 

Without Him I am nothing. 

With Him I am so much, to so many.
